Ukrainian translation of the World e-Parliament Report 2012 now available

The Parliamentary Development Project for Ukraine has worked with the Division of Computerized Systems of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to provide the Ukrainian translation of the original English language World e-Parliament Report 2012.

German parliament study recommends to change law to boost open source

A study group in the German parliament advises changes to the national budget laws, to allow publishing as open source the software written for or by public administrations. Currently, Germany's budget law prevents public administrations from giving ICT solutions away for free.

A major outcome of the four-day meeting of the Committee on Development Information Science and Technology (CODIST II) in Addis Ababa in May 2011, has been the launch of the African Inter-Parliamentary Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation (AIPF-STI) according to the Information and Communications Service of ECA. The Forum will advocate for more investments in Science, Technology and Innovation at country level.

Democracy Web: Comparative Studies in Freedom

Democracy Web is composed of an interactive world map and an online study guide developed by the Albert Shanker Institute and Freedom House for use by teachers, professors, and their upper secondary- and lower college-level students. The study guide and map offer an overview of the basic architecture of democracy, give historical background information, and provide a framework for comparing the state of political rights and civil liberties in different countries around the world.

Measuring the Information Society

The latest edition of Measuring the Information Society features the new ITU ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket - two benchmarking tools to measure the Information Society. The IDI captures the level of advancement of ICTs in 159 countries worldwide and compares progress made between 2002 and 2008. It also measures the global digital divide and examines how it has developed in recent years.

The report highlights the key role of ICT as an enabler of a more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable world. Sweden tops the rankings of The Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010, released by the World Economic Forum. Sweden is followed by Singapore and Denmark, which was in the number one position for the last three years. Switzerland (4), the United States (5) and the other Nordic countries together with Canada, Hong Kong and the Netherlands complete the top 10.
