  • Visit of a delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam to the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament

    A delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam headed by Mr Le Quang Vu, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Office, visited the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament from 3 to 5 December in the framework of a study tour with focus on e-parliament.

  • Meeting of Parliamentarians at the Internet Governance Forum

    Sample Image12 November 2007 - A meeting of Parliamentarians was held as part of the programme of the second meeting of the Internet Governance Forum, hosted by the Government of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on 12 - 15 November 2007. The meeting provided parliamentarians with an opportunity to discuss and share views on matters related to Internet Governance.

  • Global Survey on ICT in Legislatures 2007
    Between July and November 2007, the Global Centre conducted a worldwide survey on the use of ICT by legislatures. A questionnaire was sent to 263 chambers of unicameral and bicameral parliaments in 188 countries and to two regional parliaments. In total 105 assemblies responded to the survey: 48 unicameral, 56 bicameral and one regional.

  • Fellowship / Staff Exchange Programme

    As part of its activities to strengthen the capacity of parliamentary officials to harness Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the legislative process, the Global Centre for ICT Parliament placed six fellowships at the disposal of parliamentary officials from developing countries for a Study Tour in September 2007.

  • Briefing on the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament

    11 June 2007 - The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Inter-Parliamentary Union organized a briefing for Permanent Representatives and Permanent Observers to the United Nations on the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament's goals, activities and initial achievements. The briefing, held as part of the Global Centre's advocacy and raising-awareness activities, was attended by around sixty delegates from more than thirty Member States.

  • Consultation meeting on Parliaments in the Information Age

    A meeting on Parliaments in the Information Age: mobilizing stakeholders around concrete initiatives was held on 24 May, at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, as part of a cluster of events related to the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

  • Towards the establishment of an African Parliamentary Knowledge Network on ICT, legislation and documentation

    An International workshop “Towards the establishment of an African Parliamentary Knowledge Network on ICT, legislation and documentation" (APKN) was held on 20 March 2007 to exchange ideas and agree on a common framework for the establishment of an APKN. The workshop, hosted by the National Assembly of Nigeria, was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

  • International Conference on The policymaking role of Parliaments in the development of the Information Society

    The International Conference on “The policymaking role of Parliaments in the development of the Information Society” was organized by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) provided substantive and technical inputs to the Conference through the Global Centre for Information and Communication Technologies in Parliament.

    Parliaments' Information Management in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities of ICTs to Strengthen Democracy and Parliamentary Governance. The Conference created an opportunity for African Parliaments to appreciate the complex scenario of issues, constraints and diversified resources that African Parliaments need to acknowledge and address for the successful deployment of ICTs in their legislatures.
