The Office for Promotion of Parliamentary Democracy of the European Parliament and the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament held a three-day workshop on “Technological Options for Capturing and Reporting Parliamentary Proceedings”, hosted by the European Parliament in Brussels from 14 to 16 July 2010. The event followed the dialogue started in a specialized session of the World e-Parliament Conference 2009 held in Washington, D.C., during which participants called for more inter-parliamentary cooperation in this area of work and for sharing available expertise on the implementation of different technological solutions.

Directed at Heads of Reporting offices and IT departments, the Workshop intended to assist parliaments in identifying good practices and technologies for capturing and managing parliamentary proceedings that are most suitable for their needs, taking into account the specificities of their legislative traditions and cultural environment. The Workshop was a first step towards the development of a practical handbook that can serve as reference manual for parliaments seeking to improve their capacities to deliver a better service in this domain.
