The Parliament of MERCOSUR was established on December 6, 2006, as a substitute for the Joint Parliamentary Committee, and is the body representing the interests of citizens of member states. The structure of the Parliament is designed as a contribution to the quality and institutional balance of the MERCOSUR, creating a common space that reflects the pluralism and diversity of the region and contributing to democracy, participation, representativeness, transparency and social legitimacy in the development of the integration process and its rules.
