Role
The role of the Working Group will be to develop a set of Guidelines for the implementation of XML in parliaments through:
- Discussing issues related to the implementation of XML;
- Sharing and documenting information about XML (initiatives and schemas) ;
- Sharing and documenting information on methods, tools and applications that support the adoption of XML;
- Build capacity in the lesser developed and under-resourced parliaments;
- Propose and coordinate seminars, workshops and presentations on XML.
Outcomes
The Working Group on XML in Parliament intends to develop a set of Guidelines for Implementing XML-based Parliamentary Document Recording and Management Systems based on best practices and experiences from Parliaments that have managed to develop and implement XML based systems to record and manage parliamentary documentation such as bills, proceedings, amendments and produce Hansards and other documents.
Modalities of work
Facilitated by the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament and coordinated by a Moderator, the Working Group will interact and collaboratively develop on the Guidelines through:
- Online Wiki to consolidate all relevant information that is shared through the mailing list, in addition to links to XML schemas, XML-in-Parliament projects and all related documentation
- Mailing List that is restricted to the members and moderated by members of the Working Group. Invitations for membership will be sent to individuals by the Global Centre for ICT in parliament.
- Virtual meetings
- Workshop by the Working Group to be held in conjunction with major e-Parliament events (WePC2009)
