Since 16 February 2012 citizens have been able to submit online via the eTax website their annual tax returns to the Public Revenue Office (PRO).

Over 225 000 Dutch people - double the number expected - have used the new electronic identity service DigiD Authorise (DigiD Machtigen, in Dutch) in order to authorise another person to settle their 2011 tax return, it was reported in April 2011.

The Dutch Government has introduced a new system, DigiD Authorise (DigiD Machtigen, in Dutch), which will enable tighter privacy in the use of citizens' Digital Identity (DigiD), it was announced on 28 February 2011.
