According to an announcement made in early December 2012, over a quarter of a million people in Austria have activated their electronic identification and signature function, which they can employ using their mobile phones, electronic or professional cards (for notaries and lawyers), identity cards or pupil/student IDs.

On 29 August 2012, the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Ivailo Moskovski, signed seven contracts relating to the provision of an electronic identification (eID) system and other eGovernment services.

The German Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on 8 March 2012 the launch of a new eGovernment initiative in spring 2012.

Since 1 November 2010, almost 9 million new electronic ID cards have been issued, and this number will reach about 10 million by the end of 2011. In the convenient size of a credit card, these cards enable the reliable identification of their holders online.

A new PIN change procedure has recently been introduced on the eSignature portal to enable users to deal with lost or forgotten PINs in a user-friendly manner.

1 July 2011 marked the first anniversary of the launch of Denmark's digital signature system NemID. During that year, it was used 310 million times by 79 % of the adult population to access services in both the public and private sectors, and notably for Internet banking.

Vetuma, the Finnish public administration's joint service for electronic citizen identification and payment, has grown significantly during its 5 years of service, and will be updated during summer 2011, it was announced at a dedicated conference on 25 May 2011.

Following a survey of stakeholders, Sweden's eIdentification Board (E-legitimationsnämnden, in Swedish) has set itself a goal of providing a mature electronic identity (eID) solution by mid-2013, it was announced in June 2011. The Board will now construct a test environment to clarify stakeholders' needs.
