EU: DG Connect launches survey on Priority Actions for 2013 and beyond

On 11 February 2013, the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) launched a survey addressed to all its stakeholders and other interested parties, in order to further analyse the evidence on which it bases its Priority Actions for 2013 and beyond.

Cenatic: 40 percent server and 15 percent desktops deploy open source

Open source is used on 40 percent of all servers and on 15 percent of all desktops in use by public administrations across Spain, according to an inventory done by Cenatic, the country's resource centre on this type of software.

One in five public administrations is making its applications available using an open source licence and another 6 percent is planning to do this, soon.

Open source is used for mission critical applications in more than half of all public administrations, Cenatic concludes.

A survey on the functioning of online communities on collaboration platforms for public administrations involved in open source software, semantic assets, electronic government and the information society was just opened, on behalf of the European Commission's ISA program (Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations).

The survey is meant to analyse the functioning of online communities present on the Joinup, ePractice and Elanet collaborative platforms. The results are expected to be published in March or April this year.

According to a poll conducted in July 2011, 23 % of Lithuanian citizens currently use electronic public and administrative services. In the light of these results, a campaign was launched to actively promote the use of eServices.
