Markup of U.S. Legislation in Akoma Ntoso Challenge Announced

The Library of Congress announced the challenge "Markup of US Legislation in Akoma Ntoso" inviting competitors to apply the Akoma Ntoso schema to U.S. federal legislative information so it can be more broadly accessed and analyzed. Challenge participants will attempt to markup the text of selected US bills using the Akoma Ntoso framework and will be expected to identify issues, recommend solutions to resolve those issues, and provide information on the tools used to create the markup.

New Zealand: Request for Information in relation to a Replacement of the Hansard Production (IT) system

The Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives of New Zealand will shortly issue a formal Request for Information (RFI) seeking information regarding the supply of a replacement of its existing Hansard Production System application, with a view to issuing a formal Request for Proposals. Suppliers with an existing application or capable of providing the replacement Hansard Production. System application are invited to respond to that RFI. The Handbook on "Information and Communication Technologies in Parliamentary Libraries", prepared by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the IFLA Section on Library and Research Services for Parliaments through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament provides in a concise manner an overview of the ICT software, systems and services that can be adopted by parliamentary libraries, a template for their implementation and a series of references to which parliamentary staff can refer while planning to transform their library into an ICT-based institution. The Presidency Conclusions of the Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments, held in Warsaw on 20-21 April 2012, recognized the role of open standards in providing better access to parliamentary information and activities, and at the same time called for the adoption of internationally agreed standards to favour the re-use of published data.
