The interoperable IS backbone for eHealth contract notice, which was published on the eProcurement portal, calls for the establishment of
an IT infrastructure to enable the integration of the different information systems of various healthcare providers in Slovenia.

Furthermore, it intends to increase access to patient medical information considerably and to facilitate a more efficient exchange of health records among healthcare providers such as hospitals, medical centres, insurance companies and pharmacies. The ministry envisages that such an interoperable IS will result in higher quality patient care.

The infrastructure will be designed to support international standards, which will also enable the international exchange of and access to data.

The contract will consist of three planned phases:

• creation of IT services;
• ongoing maintenance and management of IT services;
• additional maintenance.
