Sample ImageA meeting on  Parliaments in the Information Age: mobilizing stakeholders around concrete initiatives was held on 24 May, at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, as part of a cluster of events related to the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

fThe meeting was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in their capacity as facilitators of the “Subgroup on ICT in Parliament of Action Line C1”, within the framework of the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament.

The purpose of the meeting was to bring together stakeholders undertaking activities in the area of ICT and Parliaments to exchange experiences, create synergies and facilitate collaboration. Special attention was placed on Open Source in Parliament and on Africa, as well as on the preparation of a Global Report on ICT in Parliament. A final session was dedicated to presentations of ongoing initiatives and technical assistance programmes.
