The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized the Second Parliamentary Forum on “Shaping the Information Society: the Role of Parliaments and Legislators” on 2 December 2008 at the International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India. The Forum was held on the eve of the third Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
The Second Parliamentary Forum provided a platform for members of Parliament, experts and representatives of the United Nations to exchange views, experiences and legislative practices on Information Society related issues. The meeting was build on the First Parliamentary Forum “Shaping the Information Society: the role of Parliaments and Legislators”, which took place in Geneva on 14-15 May 2008, and the meeting of Parliamentarians held in November 2007 in Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of the second Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
