This guide is intended to be used by parliaments for the purposes of building effective social media operations. In analysing social media operations, we identified a number of instances of best practice, and problems, that might come up as part of such an operation. It stems from research conducted as part of the Managing Parliament’s Image project.

The National Democratic Institute (NDI), Stanford’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL), the Omidyar Network and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) organized the conference "Governing Democratically in a Tech-Empowered World", on 23-24 April 2013, to explore how technology is changing the ways in which democracies function and how to support democratic institutions, particularly in developing democracies, in adapting to these changes. Anders Johnsson, Secretary General of IPU, delivered opening remarks and UN/DESA was represented by Flavio Zeni, Chief Technical Adviser, Africa i-Parliament Action Plan.

The International Open Data Hackathon, to take place on 23 February, is a gathering of citizens in cities around the world to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption open data policies by the world's local, regional and national governments.

Le Rapport mondial 2012 sur l’e-Parlement illustre les efforts accomplis par les parlements pour introduire les technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC) au service de leurs fonctions constitutionnelles. Ce Rapport se base sur l’Enquête mondiale 2012 sur les TIC dans les Parlements, conduite par le Centre mondial pour les TIC au Parlement entre février et mai 2012, qui constitue la troisième d’une série d’enquêtes commencée en 2007.

The purpose of this book is to present our views of knowledge management, and to describe the various processes that we have used in our Parliament to outline and analyse the role and importance of knowledge management, its essential components and application in practice during the years 2000–2001.

La Conférence mondiale 2012 sur l’e-Parlement a eu lieu à la Chambre des députés d'Italie, à Rome, les 13, 14 et 15 Septembre. La clôture de la Conférence a coincidé avec la Journée internationale de la démocratie, établie en 2008 par l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies.

The National Democratic Institute (NDI), the Sunlight Foundation and the Latin American Network for Legislative Transparency launched the website www.openingparliament.org to serve as a forum to help connect the world's civic organizations engaged in monitoring, supporting and opening up their countries' parliaments and legislative institutions.

El Congreso de la República de Guatemala con apoyo del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) lanzó el sitio web www.infantil.congreso.gob.gt, el que contien un diseño y un contenido orientado a que los niños y jovenes se involucren e interesen en como funciona el Congreso de la República, cuáles son sus órganos, interactuar con sus diputados y un espacio para cargar documentos que contengan noticias relacionadas con niñez y juventud así como un espacio de biblioteca. Este es un avance más dado en busqueda de fortalecer las institucinalidad y al mismo tiempo involucrar a nuestra juventud que es de un 35% aproximadamente en los temas de ciudadanía, Estado de Derecho, Transparencia y Democracia Participativa.

At the Conference "PMO Leaders Conference on Parliamentary Transparency and Networking" concluded on 2 May 2012, parliamentary monitoring organizations (PMOs) from all regions of the world shared their experiences and good practices on a host of topics, from monitoring political finance to advocating for greater transparency of parliamentary information. The PMOs at the conference agreed to continue to work together in a number of concrete areas, including a shared declaration of principles on parliamentary transparency.

The Joint Committe on Plans, Public Budgets and Auditing held a public hearing to discuss the theme "Open Parliament: Transparency and Social Control for a More Collaborative Congress"  Thursday 19 April.

This report focuses on study of cases concerning organizational, political and social aspects that interfere in the successes and challenges of some experiments in legislative digital democracy.  It is the result of 4-years research on legislative e-democracy in several parliaments throughout the world, supported by University of State of Rio de Janeiro and the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation from University of Harvard.

WSIS Forum 2012 will be held from 14th to 18th May 2012 and will provide structured opportunities to network, learn and to participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on WSIS implementation. This event builds upon the tradition of annual WSIS May meetings, and its new format is the result of open consultations with all WSIS Stakeholders.
