The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) inaugurated in Rome, Italy, the Office of the Global Centre for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Parliament.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) convened a meeting on "Parliaments and the Information Society: Enhancing cooperation and building partnerships" on 17 May 2006, Palais des Nations, Geneva.

16 November 2005
The United Nations Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, José Antonio Ocampo, launched the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament on 16 November 2005 at the high-level dialogue "Governance, Global Citizenship and Technology: the Role of Parliaments in the Information Society" during the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis.

The Association of Secretaries General will meet at Bangkok in Thailand from 28 March to 1 April 2010, in parallel with the 122^nd session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The meeting will take place in the Centara Bangkok Convention Centre, the same venue as for the IPU Assembly.

ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP are pleased to announce that the WSIS Forum 2010 will be held from 10 to 14 May 2010, at the ITU Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. This event builds upon the tradition of annual WSIS May meetings, and its new format is a result of the open consultations with all WSIS Stakeholders.

The Report of the Third Parliamentary Forum is now available!

The Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, Mr. Sha Zukang; the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Mr. Anders Johnson; and the Secretary General of the ITU, Mr. Hamadoun Touré opened the Third Parliamentary Forum “ICT and the Global Economic Crisis: Current Situation and Future Perspectives”. The event was the third meeting of members of parliament focusing on issues relating to the Information Society and the aim of the Forum series was to further dialogue among legislators on parliamentary actions that can contribute to the shaping of the future Information Society in view of the WSIS implementation, follow-up and future 2015 review.

The 2nd “Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research” is organised by the FP7 EuroAfrica-ICT EU-funded project and is supported by the African Union Commission (AUC - HRST) and the European Commission (EC - DG INFSO - International Relations Unit) under the Information Communication Technology (ICT) theme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
