JoinUp Advocates of free and open source in public administrations are getting worried about developments in the autonomous regions of Extremadura and Andalusia. They fret that an upcoming feasability study on a proprietary cloud-based office suite and a proprietary database server will spell the end of the open source initiatives by the Extremadura regional government. In Andalusia it is the replacement of a locally made enterprise resource system by a proprietary alternative that is troubling the open source enthousiasts. JoinUp The government of the Province of Bizkaia in the west part of Spain's Basque Country, awarded a grant to ELSE (Asociacion de Empresas de Software Libre de Euskadi, in Spanish), the non-profit organisation representing free software companies of the Basque Country, it was announced on 6 September 2011. The provincial government (Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, in Spanish) allocated funding for the years 2011 and 2012; the aim is to give further boost to ELSE members' internationalisation strategies and facilitate their access to other markets.
