The Dutch may become the first in Europe to use Skype and other web-based services on smartphones for no extra charge. On 22 June, the Dutch Parliament passed a law stopping mobile operators from blocking or charging extra for voice calling done via the net.

The absence of an internationally-agreed legal framework hampers the fight against cybercrime. This session will examine the existing mechanisms for international coordination on cyber-security and discuss options for inter-parliamentary cooperation on and support to the cyber-security agenda.

Law-making in specialized parliamentary committees, oversight over regulatory bodies and scrutiny on governmental actions, targeted hearings and investigations, and representations of citizens and businesses concerns are some of the options available to parliaments to enhance cyber-security. The session will review a few practices carried out by legislatures around the world to respond to the cyber-security challenges and their effectiveness.

Companies that run critical U.S. industries such as power plants would get government incentives to make sure their systems are secure from computer-based attacks, the White House said, detailing its broad proposal to beef up the country's cybersecurity.

The PlayStation Network drama is still unfolding, and it's uncommonly suspenseful. But the basic issue — big companies failing to adequately secure consumer information from hack attacks — is far from unique.

El Foro Parlamentario “El triple reto de la ciberseguridad: Información, ciudadanos e infraestructura” es la cuarta reunión de miembros de parlamentos centrada en cuestiones relativas a la sociedad de la información organizada en el marco del Centro Mundial de las TIC en el Parlamento.

WSIS Forum 2011 was held from 16th to 20th May 2011 and provided structured opportunities to network, learn and to participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on WSIS implementation. This event was built upon the tradition of annual WSIS May meetings, and its new format is the result of open consultations with all WSIS Stakeholders.

The World e-Parliament Conference provided an opportunity to debate the challenges and benefits provided by ICT and analyzed successful approaches, identified good practices and lessons learned.
The Conference was aimed at parliamentarians, Secretaries General and parliamentary staff and officials who work with ICT, such as legislative staff, IT administrators, knowledge managers and librarians.

The World e-Parliament Conference 2010 took place on 21 and 22 October 2010 at the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The event was co-organized by the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliament of South Africa, the Pan-African Parliament and the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament.
